Soggy Antigo A Challenge for the Greaves Duo, CJ Sweeps Pro-4 Class

June 6-8, 2025 (Antigo, WI)–Rain mixed with sunshine made for another challenging weekend as the Greaves Duo took on the familiar dirt for the Antigo Off-Road National at the Antigo Lions Roaring Raceway, in Antigo, Wisconsin. In a very rare occurrence, CJ Greaves had some trouble and did not land a podium in the side-by-side classes. However, in spite of that, he maintained his first place in the Pro Turbo SXS class and 2nd in Pro Stock SXS points standings. He also swept the Pro-4 class and Johnny moved up to 3rd in the points standings.

PRO STOCK SXS

CJ Greaves in his Polaris RZR side-by-side racing machine

SATURDAY: The Greaves Duo headed to the familiar confines on Antigo or rounds 3 and 4 of the Championship Off Road Series. First up was CJ Greaves in the Pro Stock SXS in his Polaris RZR. CJ started on the pole along side fellow Polaris driver, Collin Truett, alongside. CJ quickly jumped into the lead but Truett was right on his tail and managed to pass for the lead. CJ battled back and regained the lead before the competition caution. The two Polaris’ had more than a 5 second lead at the halfway point.

On the restart, CJ led the field to the green flag and held the lead for a while. Someone spun him out in the hairpen turn which sent him way back in the field. He managed to get back to 7th but that’s as far as he could go before the race ended.

SUNDAY: CJ started 3rd for Sunday’s race. Rain drenched the track earlier in the day which narrowed the race line for the afternoon races. Truett took the lead and made contact with CJ in the process. Jeb Bootle and CJ also got together causing both machines sto spin out just before the competition caution flag flew. Bootle had to go to the hot pit and CJ was also struggling with his car. Eventually he went to the back for a disappointing finish.

In spite of his bad luck, Greaves was still able to maintain his 2nd place in the standings and even edged closer to within 4 points behind leader Owen VanEperen.

PRO TURBO SXS

SATURDAY: Even though CJ was the top qualifier, he had a mechanical problem and had to start at the rear of the field. Not to be denied, he worked his way through the field and landed in 7th before the midway caution.

CJ continued to fight and with less three minutes remaining in the race, he pushed his Monster Energy/Toyo Tire/Polaris up to 4th behind Rodney VanEperen. Rodney stalled in the corner which caused CJ to have to checkup, breaking his momentum. He worked hard to get to the final podium spot but ran out of time and settled for a hard fought 4th place finish.

SUNDAY: In Sunday’s Pro Turbo SXS racing action, CJ started on the 2nd row beside top qualifier and fellow Polaris RZR racer, Jeb Bootle. When the green flag flew, the field began to fall in line with CJ landing in 4th behind Owen VanEperen, Jeb Bootle, and Rodney Van Eperen. The top cars were close together but not much change took place until just before the competition caution. Kyle Chaney passed CJ to take the 4th spot away from him.

A storm was brewing in the weather with wind and rain looking to be a factor. A storm was also brewing on the track. The racing was fierce and CJ dropped another spot before battling back. He was able to pass the elder VanEperen to end the race in 4th, just off the podium. His hard work paid off as he was able to hold on to his first place in the standings.

PRO 4

Hall of Fame off-road racer Johnny Greaves in Antigo WI

SATURDAY: It’s rare for CJ to not make a podium and the Pro 4 was his final opportunity to make that happen for Saturday’s racing. CJ Greaves and Jimmy Henderson lined up on the front row and Johnny Greaves started from the 6th position on row 3. The first half of the race featured tight, fender banging racing with the defending champ, CJ Greaves’ number 33 running in 3rd and the Off-Road Hall of Famer, Johnny Greaves, running in 5th. Jimmy Henderson was in the lead but with an apparent left front tire going flat, his lead would not last. CJ made the pass on Mickey Thomas and set his sights on Henderson. He made the pass and checked out before the competition caution brought the field back together again.

Henderson went to the hot pit to make the tire change during the caution. Johnny Greaves worked his way into the 4th position as the 2nd half of the race got underway. Cole Mamer, who was running in 2nd at the time, hit one of the tractor tire barriers and went off-track, losing positions in the process. While CJ had a big lead, Johnny moved up to 3rd. Jimmy Henderson was making his comeback moves and was able to pass Johnny to take the podium spot away from the elder Greaves with only 2 laps to go in the race. The race ended with CJ taking another win and Johnny coming in 4th.

SUNDAY: The Pro 4 class never disappoints when it comes to heart stopping racing. CJ was once again the top qualifier and rolled off from the front row for the final race of the weekend. Johnny Greaves number 22 Monster Energy/Toyo Tire/Toyota started on row 4. CJ waisted no time going to the lead after Cole Mamer caught a rut and end-o’d and rolled, landing upside-down on his roof. The full course caution stacked the field once again. CJ held the lead but Mickey Thomas was in hot pursuit. Thomas and CJ went side-by-side at time and Thomas took the lead momentarily. But CJ battled back putting on a great show for the faithful fans.

CJ continued to stretch his lead although Thomas was within striking distance with 3 minutes remaining in the race. Johnny was in 7th and still trying to move up positions. With less than 2 minutes to go, Mickey Thomas stalled his machine which allow CJ Greaves to cruise to the win by more than 8 seconds ahead of the 2nd place car of Jimmy Henderson and Adrian Cenni in 3rd. Johnny was able to move up to take a top 5 and move him into 3rd in the points standings.

The Greaves Duo heads to The Big House on June 20th for the Forest County Potawatomi Brush Run Races at the fabled Crandon International Raceway in Crandon, Wisconsin, for rounds 5, 6, and the FCP Community Cup races.
