CJ Takes 3rd in Wildest FCP Cup Race Finish—Ever!

June 21-22, 2025 (Crandon, WI)–Crandon International Raceway played host to rounds 5 and 6 of Championship Off-Road Series this past weekend. It also included the thrilling FCP Community Cup race with Pro2’s taking on the Pro4’s. The Greaves Duo have had tremendous success at the fabled Crandon track. CJ looked to make it 4 in a row for the prestigious cup race. In the Pro Stock SXS class, he rebounded from Antigo’s woes to podium in both races. However, he had a very tough day in the Pro SXS class, with DNF’s in both races. He went 1-2-3 in Pro4 which included the 3rd place in the wildest finish in the FCP Community Cup race’s history! Johnny also ran good too, pulling the holeshot in both races and a second place in Saturday’s race with the Duo’s classic father/son duel.

Pro Stock SXS

Saturday: CJ lined up 4th, near the middle of the pack as the field prepared for the famous landrush start. When the green flag flew, 15 cars from two rows of stock side-by-sides screamed to the Forest County Potawatomi turn one. All cars make it through turn one without a crash with CJ’s Polaris RZR landing in 4th. Owen VanEperen was in the lead followed by the Polaris of Jeb Bootle, Collen Truett, and CJ Greaves. There was no change in the top 5 as the contenders saved their battles for the 2nd half of the race.

Following the competition caution, CJ began to make his move. He passed Truett to take 3rd and began his attack on Jeb Bootle with only 2 laps remaining in the race. He made a great run as the two Polaris approached the gravel pit turn. CJ tucked his machine on the inside line and they went door to door. Unfortunately, he cut the turn too tight and biked next to the berm. This broke his momentum but he continued take 3rd behind Bootle who landed in 2nd behind Owen VanEperen.

Sunday: Owen VanEperen continued his surge by taking the early lead. CJ began to work his way around David Gay into 4th. He was applying pressure on the Polaris of Jeb Bootle as the red/yellow flag flew for the competition caution.

On the restart, Jeb gets a great start and goes to 2nd. A great battle between Bootle, Cross Kirchmeier, and CJ Greaves. Cross stole 2nd from Bootle. CJ also passed Bootle and set his sights on Kirchmeier with 2 laps to go. On the final lap, CJ made the pass and held him off as the two took the checkered flag.

Pro Turbo SXS

Saturday: CJ beat the field on 19 to the FCP turn one from the pole position. Sadly, his lead did not last as he rolled to a stop before the halfway point.

Sunday: CJ Greaves was hoping to rebound from Saturday’s mechanical problems. He was looking strong as he took the early lead after a smooth holeshot in Sunday’s race. Unfortunately, his luck did not improve. His race ended just before the halfway point of the race.

Pro 4

Saturday: CJ Greaves was the top qualifier for Saturday’s Pro4 race and Johnny started in the pole position for the landrush start. Johnny’s Monster Energy/Toyo Tire/Toyota took the holeshot from the 9 truck field with CJ right on his bumper. Johnny led the Greaves Duo around the track for the first half of the race.

On the restart, the Duo put on one of their classic father/son battles. CJ passed the elder Greaves with Henderson trailing in a close third. Henderson and Johnny went door to door but Henderson spun-out in “calamity corner”. Kyle Chaney was now in 3rd with only 2 laps to go. Johnny was able to hold him off to take 2nd as CJ grabbed win number 4 in a row.

Sunday: The Pro4’s and Pro2’s had morning races to allow prep time for the afternoon cup race on Sunday. Once again, Johnny got the holeshop with CJ in tow behind him. The Duo pulled away to a 4 second lead over the rest of the field of 8. CJ passed just ahead of “cowboy cutoff” and the competition caution.

On the restart, jimmy Henderson began to pressure CJ, going side-by-side and even led briefly. But CJ was able to battle back and hold him off. Meanwhile, Cole Mamer tried to take on Johnny but ended up spinning out. Regrettably, Johnny had to pull out of the race with a mechanical problem with less than 5 minutes to go in the race. CJ was all alone in the lead by more than a 2 second margin. As Jimmy Henderson began to close in, it was apparent something was wrong with CJ’s Toyota–he was stuck in 3rd gear. CJ’s lead continued to narrow and Henderson made the pass as the white flag few for the final lap. He held on to take 2nd and he stretched his lead in the standings by 57 points.

FCP Community Cup Race

The finale and highlight of the weekend is the Pro2 versus Pro4 race, the Forest County Potawatomi Community Cup Race on Sunday. CJ Greaves has donned the winner’s rose covered wreath in the last 3 cup races. Johnny Greaves has also won the cup race 6 times but sat out this year’s race. Keegan Kincaid was the leader of the 11 truck Pro2 field with about a 30 second head start on the Pro4’s. Kincaid pulled away to a huge lead over the rest of the 2-wheel drive racers. CJ made his way to the back of the Pro2’s and began to pick them off one by one. With 8 laps to go, he was still 24 seconds behind race leader Kincaid. Greaves passed the last remaining Pro2 behind Kincaid with 4 more laps remaining. He had a lot of distance to make up.

On the last lap, the craziest thing happened. CJ went inside of Kincaid in the gravel pit turn as he was going for the lead. Not willing to give up any ground, the two machines made contact and CJ’s front right wheel was on top of Kincaid’s and they were locked together. They had a huge lead on the rest of the field as they struggled to separate their trucks! Meanwhile, Kyle Chaney was getting closer. Just as CJ and Kincaid pulled apart, Chaney was right in the middle of them. Just as CJ thought he was going to squeeze between Kincaid and Chaney for the win, he went to grab second gear and he was stuck in first! So he had to let the other two battle it out. Chaney pushed through to sprint with Kincaid toward the finish line. Just as they approached the finish line, Kincaid and Chaney made contact with Chaney landing on the back of Kincaid as they crossed the line in dramatic fashion! CJ was close too but finished 3rd in the mayhem.
